Los Parafusos – Improvisación de Loreto (2010-2013)
Los Parafusos
(Gilda Mantilla y Raimond Chaves)

Los Parafusos (Gilda Mantilla and Raimond Chaves)
Based on the piece “Bajo el sol de Loreto” by Antonio Wong Rengifo and Jorge Runciman
As a result of an investigation in the archives of the two libraries specialized on the subject of Amazonia in the city of Iquitos (*), Gilda Mantilla and Raimond Chaves found a series of scores whose music served as the soundtrack for a video essay titled “Un afán incómodo” (Lima, 2011).
The scores, which came from a broad spectrum of musics coming from the area, some of indigenous origin and others urban in origin, were scanned, read and interpreted by means of digital software specialized in these matters. The improvisational character of this interpretation, which stems from the piece “Bajo el sol de Loreto” by the composers Antonio Wong Rengifo and Jorge Runciman, derives from the behavior of the software which can read scores and interpret them correctly based on the notation, but also reacts in a non-foreseeable manner, musically speaking, faced with printed deficiencies, typos or similar. The reading “difficulties” of the software appear as a metaphor to the fallibility of any process of knowledge and definitely of comprehension, within an “other” and alien context.

Angel,
I heard your interview with Jason Woodbury on Aquarium Drunkard's "Transmissions" podcast today. It was truly remarkable and touched my heart. I bought this album immediately afterward and am so grateful to you for this nourishing music in these strange, trying days. I hope I can time my next trip to Chicago to be able to see you perform live. Thank you! Michael Feltes

There’s room for improvisation in the style of “Perfect (Every Time)” – focused, with broken vocals and bow strokes. But also for a direction in the style of “Open Winded” – a film-like, emotional melody with beautiful harmonies. This is an open, light, and bold album; spontaneous music, full of fantasy and intriguing details.
